Suede Albert Hall
Manchester
20th April 2019
The last time I seen 'Suede' it was at the venue Manchester Academy for their 'Bloodsports' album in '2013' 6 years later I'm back to witness their magic again on 1 of 2 Sold Out nights here promoting their album 'The Blue Hour', Brett and Co are back!!!
I went along early and managed to bump into 'Simon Gilbert' whilst he was chilling outside the venue, he noticed my number on my hand he asked me what does the number mean I explained to him that its fan queue control so people can go where they like once they have a number in the stalls/standing queue he was fascinated I've never told artists about the system was quite strange discussing it.
A few minutes later 'Brett' arrives and he's happy to do photos, noting my Suede goody bag from the cinema premiere 'The Insatiable Ones' he delves into the paper bag for a mooch whats in this?
He picks up the matchbox with the fan made plectrum in it 'Hmm Thats Cool' pops it back in bag then spots the chocolate biscuits with Suede logo and exclaims "It's Kit Kat!! dosent say 'Suede' in the chocolate does it"?? no pleasing Mr Anderson LOL.
I said yeah they're from the fan club he looked amused so there you go Fandom and Celebrity unite folks ...a first for LMi Blogs.
On with the review... supporting the band tonight is American artist 'BC Camplight' he is a jolly excitable chap, very loud he puts me in mind of 'Cake' from 90's
The Music is interesting he likes to move the furniture around a bit whilst playing, he seems to be influenced by UK Independent artists and a bit of 'Depeche Mode' it's his second night supporting the band here.
So onto our act ,it promises to be a special show as I mentioned today earlier on that this afternoon was the premiere of 'The Insatatiable Ones' Documentary on the road with the band so I've a feeling we'll step back in time a bit tonight.
As 'Neil' with unbelievably long hair steps onto the stage left where I'm positioned, followed by Matt, Simon,Richard and 'Brett' in pristine white shirt he's such a down to earth guy, but oh my such an icon !!
They kick things off with 'As One' 'Wastelands' and one from 'Bloodsports', 'Outsiders' then it's pretty much business as usual with 'We Are The Pigs', 'Brett' 'Sweaty', 'Energetic' and he has the crowd polarised watching his every move.
The pace dosen't ebb as we go headlong into 'So Young', 'Metal Mickey', and one of my fav songs from 'Dog Man Star', 'This Hollywood Life' I am in complete awe nothing is lost on this band they've still got it !!.
We are treated to an acoustic version of 'Shes In Fashion' with Richard playing a solo and 'Brett' directing a sing a long, everyone from the floor to the balcony is joining in ,we are all in unison it, it's such a rush!!
Then a favourite B side of mine 'My Dark Star' then the second single 'The Drowners' at the same time of this excitement 'Brett' comes down off the stage and walks over the barrier and gets in ,Yes gets into the crowd and proceeds to sing whilst the crowd are tearing at his white shirt, he's being mobbed by grabbing hands,he emerges with 1 sleeve torn off he exclaims "This was new on today replaced it from last night from Primark now look at it he grins laughing.
Then its into 'Starts And Ends With You' and I have no idea where he gets the energy from but then he sings 'Trash', 'Animal Nitrate' and just when you think all the special moments are done, 'Brett' returns sitting facing me singing an accappella of 'The Wild Ones' he's sat on the amp effectively seranading me omg I cant deal.
The encore is 'Beautiful Ones' another from 'Coming Up' this band never dissapoints I'll keep coming back for 'Suede' what a legendary performance.
Lmi xo
