Kodaline HMV Showcase Manchester Arndale Centre 10.02.2015

Kodaline HMV  Showcase

Manchester Arndale Centre 10.02.2015

Kodaline a band from Ireland , I first heard of in 2013 when their amazing moving video for 'All I Wanted' was doing the rounds on MTV featuring a facially scarred man who works in an office and wins the woman of his dreams in the end very emotional stuff, as are the bands lyrics .

Their first album 'Perfect World' was a great start, influenced by Coldplay and  Mumford And Sons the band managed to sellout Academy's up and down the country on their first major tour last year, I couldn't get a ticket, singer Steve plays a multitude of musical instruments such as Keyboard ,Mandolay and Guitars.

So Today.. Tonight here we are a Year and half later with a brand new album 'Coming Up For Air' to promote and a chance to meet to the band after a 7 song set , the first 3 rows of people sat down leaving me with a perfect view of the band watching head on, the crowd were very mixed teenage to 40's age in the fanbase tonight different for a indie/pop band. The new single that comes from this album is 'Honest' which personally is much better played live than when heard on the radio the energy of the song comes alive, here amongst the Classical/ Jazz section the only thing separating the band from their listeners is a low belt barrier used for queuing.

The crowd are quiet when being appreciative, I find this particularly hard and am notebly louder in appreciation with my accompanier who is also a Serial Gigger.  The band comment "Well this is the quietest gig we've played I think" they laugh and I clap loudly ,they notice I'm a bit loud well it's a gig.  They play songs from both albums along with "High Hopes", "Love Like This" and "All I Wanted" they showcase the new material well and the crowd love it even if they are a quiet bunch.

Steve happened to mention that "We will be back in Manchester's Albert Hall, in a few weeks and hope to see some of you there" to which I said not that loud "Its Sold Out I can't" to my accompanier, but they'd heard me and muttered "Its Sold Out well " and laughed it was a funny moment how they heard it I don't know but as I said it was quiet the band had to get everyone to participate in hand clapping in rhythmic fashion , I was already up and dancing from the first song I didn't need to be coached .

I caught up with the band at the signing desk and I asked them if they would tour again later in the year, IE come back to 'Manchester' they said "Yes we think so, possibly Winter" and 'Mark' said "Oh yes I noticed you back there,we will be back later on in the year don't worry" I got my pics taken and wished them luck ,me and my accompanier enjoyed meeting them so much we went back round again for another chat lol , the album has done pretty well in the RTE Irish charts I think this band will be almost as big as 'The Script' Soon.
