Libertines Extra Special Date 'Tiddly Om Pom Pom Tour' Warrington Parr Hall

The Libertines

'Tiddly Om Pom Pom Tour'

22.09.2017

Warrington Parr Hall

Well I Never !! Warrington pulled it out the hat again, only 2 weeks after 'Rivfest' comes the 11th hour announcement 'The Libs' are playing the small capacity venue this very weekend Tickets sold out in 4 minutes, that fans actually came to the venue in the hope of scoring a golden ticket to the event such was the demands.

Mainly due to them cancelling 'Blackpool' as the ceiling was apparently due for renovation as it was deemed unsafe, I managed to get a standing ticket that I wisely chose to swap for a balcony view over the wings onto the stage,so I could review the whole thing unfolding below.

There are 2 bands both from Wales one of them 'Trampolene' were really impressive live, singer 'Jack' walks on to the stage looking like a tall bear in his fluffy Brown hooded jacket, straight away they start a half hour set of raucous indie, he's apparently good friends with 'Pete' as he likes to write poetry away from the romantic image though 'Trampolene' control the stage , their instruments with covered with Rock N Roll Cliché stickers, that remind me of another welsh band I seen in this venue in 1992  also from Wales, 'Manic Street Preachers' at that time  my view in this very spot was of 'Richey James' heavily made up, in a Pink feather boa, Memories of that epic gig flood back, and over to the right a young Nicky Wire bright blue eyeshadow in of all things a Kylie Minogue 'Shocked' t-shirt.

'Trampolene' have that charisma and captivating spirit as at the end 'Jack' reads 'To Be A Libertine' in an ode to the band off a specially printed poem which he then throws into the crowd .

Next up a magician who gets a member of the audience out to do some card tricks, then out of the silence of the crowds applause I can hear clambouring behind me over two seats behind over zealous fans spot 'Carl Barat' watching the act in our section balcony , they ask him to sign things and then he's ushered away, not even I knew he was there watching.

The Crowd are now starting to fill the floor from front to back as its heaving now, and I spot a few trouble areas already Danger ! #FridayNightInWarrington.

The lights go down a man walks onto the stage where bunting hangs acoss the top of the stage , he takes to an organ  and 'Promenade' Music begins, Drummer 'Gary' takes to his kit and 'John' over the right on bass followed by 'Carl' & 'Pete', the crowd go nuts as new song 'Time For Heroes' begins and beer goes flying as the crowd surge forward and consetina in on themselves by sheer force of will of 'Pete's adoring fans.

Carl is in his 'Libertines' T-shirt with Red braces and jeans, people are whirling around in excitement from front to back turning back the years to '2002' as the boys from 'Albion' give it their all,Produced in the early days by former Clash & Big Audio Dynamite member 'Mick Jones' they built a laddish reputation and often trouble followed them, reformed since 2015 they boys are back !!

'Pete' in his military jacket vintage style (a tribute in memory of his grandad) he's wearing mismatched sneakers only he could get away with this look making it look trendy and chic.

Their back catalogue tonight consisted mainly of 'Up The Bracket' including  'Boys In The Band' my favourite and new album 'Anthems For Doomed Youth' and their self titled album 'The Libertines' with another classic 'Cant Stand Me Now'.

During 'What Katie Did' 'Carl' clambours over the stage amps and down to the floor off the stage over to the sea of hands waiting to grab him backwards in he half crowd surfs whilst singing the song and has to get rescued by security, already 2 mic stands thrown in had to be pulled out of the crowd wanting a souvenier off 'Pete'.

'Pete' his usual charming self occasionally gets the songs a bit wrong and its warming to see him being told off by 'Carl' in a few comical pointers like "No not that one" its funny to see the comradrie between the 2 who have in the past fell out but obviously have a love for each other so sweet to see in between songs, never is this more obvious than when 'Pete' clambours onto the amp and obviously hasn't got the balance and control when 'Carl' puts a brotherly hand on him to get him come back over to relief of the crowd.

Encore time heralds the longest wait ever for the boys to get back on stage,in fact at one stage I thought they weren't coming back  as it was nearly 10.30pm anyway, well after 10 mins confusion they did, 'Pete' now jacketless in his White Vest looking a tad emotional with his acoustic guitar singing 'Anthems For Doomed Youth' with his sidekick 'Carl' they're still on stage for 5 songs including 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun', just when you think right that's it 'Pete' returns again singing 'I Wanna Be Adored' by 'Stone Roses' which is relevant as they played here 5 years ago it was strange to hear 'Pete Docherty' singing it in the set.

Carl is on Drums now for another jam at one point I thought the show would go on all night and we'd have to removed by the police like punters in a late night lock in as it was now well past 11pm, But eventually the show ended and 'Pete' hugged 'Carl' it was all very emotional, its a gig I don't think anyone will forget for the lucky few that got tickets and another goal for 'Warrington'.

Fans waited afterwards some lucky ones got things signed and selfies with Carl' ,'Gary' and 'John' who also had this gorgeous dog with bright blue eyes who was so adorable he almost couldn't get away for fans taking pictures and petting it so sweet, so it was a great night with a little piece of London Rock History, I'm truly honoured to of witnessed the landmark show the tours continues onto Brighton .

Next time "A New Discovery"
