Miles Kane Manchester Academy 'Coup De Grace Tour 23rd November 2018

Miles Kane

Manchester Academy

23rd November 2018

This guy started the year as part of 'Beatles' tribute supergroup 'Dr Peppers Jaded Hearts Club Band' at functions the US with 'Matt' of 'Muse' and 'Chris Cester' of 'Jet', later on he re-launched his solo career with 4th album 'Coup De Grace'.

'Mile's was on the bill of 'QOSTA' & Friends Summer show in 'Finsbury Park London', he later did a few HMV signings and Fred Perry Acoustic sets 1 being tonight before this show ending as the doors open for a sell out Friday Night.

Tonight the show at Academy is totally Sold Out he's actually playing another show tomorrow, supporting 'Miles' are 'Mossley's 'Cabbage' last seen at 'Liverpool Sound City' in 2017, they take to the stage with a more evolved look less an immature act of previous nights they can be a bit crazy on stage , the singer who's still incomprehensible to me as ever is providing vocals on the first few tracks.

The better of the 2 vocalists is the fop indie hair style, slim looking guitar player, it is worth noting the other guy on the left is a great guitar player too ,quite a few people in the crowd go barmy for them.

Turned 9pm now and this crowd is alive already singing to the lyrics of  'Manchester' based artists such as 'Stone Roses' and 'Oasis' this is all before 'Mile's is even on stage the atmosphere is likened to a summer festival the mood is amazing.

As he gets onto the stage he shouts "Manchester!" while backing track is playing 'Candy Staton' 'Young Hearts Run Free'.  The crowd reward him by dancing and singing every lyric word for word off the album, he kicks things off with 'Loaded'  he's certainly Mr popular tonight! the volume unprecedented the most I've seen a crowd involved since 'Franz Ferdinand' back in February.

'Miles' immediately follows that with another classic from first album 'Inhaler' and a few more from 'Coup De Grace', then 'Rearrange' before a superb version of  'Donna Summer's 'Hot Stuff' he does a great job of funking this up with his band and 'Miles' is working his 'Icon' status tonight with silver striped' face make up of  a 70's 'David Bowie' removing the white jacket he's smartly dressed  in chequered shirt and black trousers making him almost like a silhouette of 'Elvis' under the lights.

The crowd are the stars tonight there is no let up in their excitement and ability to recite lyrics one after the other, it's then we get the album favourite and crowd pleaser 'Coup De Grace' where 'Miles' joins in the crowd singing an extended acapella of the chorus "Coup De Grace, Coup De Grace, Coup De ,Coup De, Coup De", another fav was next with 'Don't Forget Who You Are'.

Its almost 'Encore' time and another costume change where he ends with the superb 'Come Closer' and we couldn't get much closer tonight as we yell the chorus "Ah... Yeah..Ah..Yeaah", what a spectacular show he exceded all expectations he proves without a doubt that he's becoming an 'Indie Icon' who's much respected  as a song writer and performer ..not bad for the boy from 'Birkenhead', It made me want to go back tomorrow but I was booked elsewhere.
