Yeah Yeah Yeah's Manchester Apollo 1st May 2013

Yeah Yeah Yeah's Manchester Apollo 1st May 2013

Yeah Yeah Yeah's Manchester Apollo 1st May 2013

I first heard about this band way back in 2004/2005,they came to my attention as they were supporting 'Muse' on a 'Campus'tour in the U.S.,I hadn't even heard their music then.

In 2009 they cracked it overhere big time with hit album 'It's Blitz'and unfortunately it was such a busy year that I missed their tour here and couldn't fit them in.

Now back with a vengence with another new album titled 'Mosquito'and back on our shores again touring the country 'New York's 'Yeah Yeah Yeah's sold out tonights gig .

The band arrive between 4-30-5-30pm in separate vans first the 2 guys arrive ,and later 'Karen O' arrives separately wearing a purple hoodie and glam seventies style sunglasses she was ushered in and didn't even say hello to the awaiting fans or stop for photos it was really quick ,Huh what a Diva !!

Support tonight comes from 'K-Holes' another U.S. Band, the female vocalist wears Gold Lame trousers and black shirt, she is blonde and the music is really weird and in the vein of 'Ramones/Rezillos',the drum beats sound satanic and she weird's things up by putting her hand to her mouth and Native Indian chants,it all got a bit pretentious with the female vocalist shaking maracas around in trance like motion ,until the male guitarist took to the mic and rocked his stuff across the stage he totally tore it up and saved the act throwing his guitar all over the place he was a proper Rockstar if only he was the main vocalist they would rock !! they play an energetic set to a rather unexcited crowd.

They are a really young crowd of kids tonight it seems they are not familiar with moshing or pogoing about or getting closer to the stage rather calm actually.

At 9pm the 2 guys in the band take to the stage by their guitars and keyboards there is rather lot of room on the stage it looks slightly empty, its a few minutes later that 'Karen O' finally saunters and prowls onto the stage to ear piercing cheers and screams.

She walks over to us and looks at the crowd and smiles beamingly, her hair is newly blonded in a trademark bob she's wearing the most outrageous colourful outfit in the shape of Yellow neon jacket encrusted with glitter and jewels in the form of flowers at the sides with matching Yellow shorts and Bright neon trainers, she has the most colourful make-up I've seen Bright Green eyeshadow and shocking pink lips!!!

She looks at us punches the air and screams 'Manchester..Yeah Yeah Yeah !! crowd pick up momentum screaming and getting ready for the gig as it kicks in..she begins with 'Sacrilige' and she parades the stage in a foot stompin zombie rage, pointing at us and posing on the amps (Any other time this would be epic in rock photography stakes, but due to her strict demads no camera/phones or recording equipment I was uneasy even though so I had my camera poised and ready)

So there she was right in front of me and I couldn't do anything the press took their shots in 2 songs and I hadn't shot any off yet..apparently the last gig here she went mad because all the crowd did was film it on camera phones drat !!

She sings another track ,the title track from the album 'Mosquito' which has the chorus of catchy pop 'Suck your Blood ,I'll suck your blood' this is the band back to their raucous best, the crowd is enjoying it a lot more now and I'm captivated by their performance (eventually I take my camera out for a few shots as other's are bloody filming and taking photos with digital cameras and using bloody flash so.. Fxxk em).

One of the highlights was a superb version of 'Golden Lion','Karen O ' kneels to the floor and holds the mic as the crowd sing along including me as it's my fav song.

She continues to play new songs from the album, this one is called 'Under The Earth',where she stands holds the mic up high and shakes the wire hypnotically, every now and again, she walks to edge of the stage and sets off a mini cannons on either sides which explodes YYYs into the crowd all over us in blue and pink glitter form its fantastic!!

They leave the stage for a minute and come back with 'Karen O' in a costume change she's now wearing the black leather cropped jacket she wears in the video for 'Zero' and the track begins we go crazy jumping up and down to the track its another fav of mine I bounced about to that one,so did she like kickboxer at a disco !!

Next up 'Heads Will Roll' and the crowd are into it now getting tighter at the front all the time though not squashed thank god, after the track the 2 Guys in the band decide to photograph us out front in the crowd so god knows where that will end up folks.

Encore time and another costume change this begins with early 'YYY's' 'Date with the Night' and a really trancy version of 'Maps' I'm lovin it Yeah yeah yeah !!

One more song its a really short encore considering the band have had a least 4 albums before it which was slightly disappointing usually bands finish at 10.45pm this finished just before 10.30pm.

All things considered a captivating show full of energy and strangeness in good proportion , glad I got to see them you can see them at Latitude Festival later this year they are top of the bill.

I will have to see what if any photos I got and let you all know when they are posted to the gallery.

Til next our worlds collide......
