Tim And Mark of The Charlatans Salford Lads Club 1st July 2017

Tim & Mark 'The Charlatans'

Special Show

  Salford Lads Club Manchester

1st  July 2017

Cast your minds back to May and 'A Different Day' there was an opportunity to be invited to an exclusive show at an undisclosed venue, well this is it !! The venue Salford Lads Club in erm .. Salford Manchester.

As you may all know, the venue is well known in music history,in particular in a certain 'Smiths' pop video for  'There is a light that never goes out' where a young bespectacled 'Morrissey' cycles along with extras past our iconic venue making it a must see for fans to flock to from all over the globe.

So much was it a sensation that there are  rooms inside dedicated to fans of 'The Smiths' and rare memorabilia, flyers documenting the bands place in Indie Music History. There's an array of colourful post it notes from visitors signing them then with messages to the club and the band, not to mention the countless number of photos of fans in front of the famous Green Doors.

The building also started off as inspiration for the scouts movement with 'Lord Baden Powell' using the clubs idea of work ethic and reward, for boys that give something to the community, opening in the 1900's it's still a youth club today but for both boys and girls at separate days.  So tonight 150 people including myself and few lucky competition winners and people from our NHS are here to witness a one off special show presented by Tim & Mark of 'The Charlatans'.

We all go upstairs to the main room which is quite tiny and narrow and after a slight delay due to people parking in the residential area ,we are introduced by a City Life magazine journalist to 'Tim & Mark' who both get on the stage to applause and they sit facing us for an interview.

A series of questions are fired at them asking for example "How are the lyrics for the new album written"?,"How did the songs come together in the studio" ? "How did you persuade Johnny Marr and Paul Weller to guest on the album"?, some of the interview was quite witty especially Mark's exclamation of 'Tim' being unable to count in 1,2,3, to a song , it had us in stitches. They played full versions of 'The Only One I Know' , 'Just When You're Thinking Things Over' as a treat, with snippets of tracks playing entirely acoustic from 'Different Days', and the band took requests my request for 'Jesus Hairdo' didn't go down to well haha.

'Feeling Holy' another request 'Tim' said  'oh no I can't do that one I need to keep my voice for singing with New Order tonight (its the start of 'Manchester International Festival') so it was a short gig but great fun, I had my picture taken outside the venue in order to place myself in the clubs history.

Some things don't change as I left the club when it was raining heavily very fitting then for  'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' as I stand in my summer clothes and sunglasses pondering will it stop or is it a typical evening in Manchester, Til Next Time .
