WHITE
Sneaky Petes-Edinburgh SOLD OUT
Independent Venue Week 02.02.18
Last September you may recall me ranting on about this Indie Rock Pop Combo band from 'Glasgow' that completely blew me away at their show for 'British Sound Project' in 'Manchester' I was eager to hear more and see more.
Well this is their only show planned for the moment at this legendary hip venue 'Sneaky Petes' situated under the arches of 'Edinburgh's City centre.
The first thing you notice when you walk in the venue is the glowsticks all over the floor walking over to the stage in block heels was an art I had to perfect, it looked amazing when the lights were out the brainchild of the band of course.
I was fortunate to bag the first ticket in only 100 for this show last year thanks to the band, support comes from 'Callum Easter' 2 in the band 'Callum' on vocals and guitar another guy is over on the synths with an interesting sound think 'The Fall' meets 'James Blake' and you have it.
'White' take to the stage to set up , plug in their guitars and get ready for a landmark show,'Roo' goes over to set up her drumsection, 'Chris' Double checks all his fuzz pedals I've not even seen that many in one place at a 'Muse' gig !!! And frontman 'Leo' grabs his 'Silver' leather look jacket (Not real leather as he's a Vegan) he puts it on and prepares his fringe.
'Vic Galloway' the event organiser takes to the stage to introduce the band on stage after a short but important speech about 'Independent Venues' how important our Grassroots Venues are to an artist to enable them to show their talents and fans to build a fanbase.
After a couple of welcome words from 'Leo' he grabs the mic stand and we kick off with a new unheard track called 'Can't Handle' this is not even available to stream on 'Spotify' yet, then my fave track from the debut 'Benelux' release of 2017's 'One Night Stand Forever' album
'I Liked You Better When You Needed Me'.
The crowd bounces to life as 'Leo' and 'Hamish' and 'Chris' get into the vibe, that unmistakable hook of the guitar, and catchy punchy lyrics that first grabbed my attention.
We keep up pace with 'Be The Unknown' and then title track 'One Night Stand Forever' with 'Leo's vocals totally dominating the tiny club almost lifting the roof off.
Another classic 'White' track 'Living Fiction' influenced heavily by 'The Associates' another band formed in 'Scotland' but from 80's era in case you're not familiar, again amazing lyrics catchy chorus.
From 'Cuts Don't Bleed EP' is the edgey fast paced Burning Indie Disco of 'Step Up' as 'Leo' Shreiks up a frenzy in the chorus 'Hamish' and 'Chris' making use of the amps moving almost into the front of crowd for the party, 'Lewis' seemingly looking pleased up there on Bass but preferring to stay back a bit from the action staying closer to 'Roo' near the back of the tiny stage.
It just keeps on building again with 'Hit Hit Hit' which I absolutely love live I'm trying all the while to film some video for a Facebook Fan page ('White Band Glasgow-One Night Stand Forever Group') but I can't stand still for this one sorry! so I'm joining in singing and bouncing along with arms outstretched, followed by 'Sweat' after all that dancing its appropriate, it dosent stop there with 'Future Pleasures' it gets crazy onstage one day I'll have to join them on stage for a rampage .
'Leo' asks the crowd if there are any requests to which I yell 'Telephone Thing' by 'The Fall' because I reckon it would be the perfect tribute to the late great 'Mark E Smith' who died a week previous.
I kept yelling for more but the lights were back on before I knew it, this show was even more Epic than the short set they played last year, if you get a chance to see this band don't miss them !!!
From what I gathered from chatting with them they are working on New songs and at the moment not sure if it'll take shape as an E.P. or Album, working on some more promotional gigs later in the year I'm told from a very reliable source that they will hopefully play the UK later in the year, it was a pleasure to join them to see this epic show, lets hope its not too long before more live dates follow .
Don't Be The Unknown ,Get Out And Join The Party !!!
LMi xo
