The Editors Manchester Apollo 18th October 2018

The Editors

 Manchester Apollo

18th October 2018

The last time I seen this band from 'Birmingham' was from the 'Weight Of Love' Tour a couple of years ago, can the band still hold resonance with the crowd ? with this year's 'Violence' album slightly tamer in it's electronics, its going to be interesting to see if they can.

Providing support 'Talos' an Irish band like a 'Jnr Editors' and 'Kodaline, they played a 30 minute set good enough to keep the crowd transfixed in readiness for the main act.

kicking off with ' The Boxer'  from 'In This Light & This Evening' followed by 'Sugar' from the last album and playing 2 standout singles from the new album 'Hallelujah -So Low' and 'Cold' are received with vigour and excitement amongst the crowd of the mainly 24 upwards age bracket.

These guys have been turning out successful albums since '2005's 'The Back Room' an influence on 'White Lies' in the past, this album was represented heavily in the set with tracks such as 'Sparks', 'Blood',and the Mega hit 'Munich',  and a few from 'An End Has A Start' including title track with great chorus ,their image is still true to what it was with 'Tom' sporting a slightly dishevelled look of unkempt hair .

Tom's dancing is like nothing seen before as he crouches low and somehow manages to look like a professional 'Northern Soul Dancer' and a crab at the same time in fact I've never seen anyone dance quite like him it's riveting to watch.

Amongst the instruments used tonight are 'Tom's Drum Machine for 'Papilion' with the ability to gather the crowd into an electro bouncing stupor, their energetic vibe being from 'In This Light & This Evening' although for me tonight cutting out 'Eat Raw Meat=Blood Drool' was the wrong decision.

The set heavy on new material, craved that extra interaction from the crowd that this song always brings with it's usual post encore slot. Having said that they put on a belting set of old and new material and the guitarist also the star of the show ensured they had the crowd in the palm of their hand tonight, encouraging participation , this band is visually interesting and with an added bonus of  'Tom' at times mirroring the silhouette of a Praying Mantis in more eerie poses on stage.

This is testament then that 'Editors' aren't done yet and have credibility as an Indie band, with era of 'uncertainty' in the music industry due to streaming and downloading within the music fraternity, 'Editors' still know how to keep their crowds happy, and gain new listeners, with the 'Birmingham'
date selling out almost as soon as they announced it ,demand is there.

If you haven't seen them play yet you'll have to travel overseas now as the UK & Ireland tour is over.
